“The way a culture treats women in birth
is a good indicator of how well women
and their contributions to society are
valued and honored.”
~ Ina May Gaskin
Our pregnancy and birth issue always feels
like the perfect way to start a new year. Birth,
just like any new beginning, brings both the
promise of something fresh, and the mystery
of what the future will hold.
Though it’s been a few years, I vividly
remember the excitement (and worry) that
comes with anticipating your baby’s birth:
“Will my body really be able to handle this?”
“I can’t wait to hold him!”
“How could I ever love another child as much
as my first?”
“Will I EVER be able to bend down and tie
my shoes again?”
No matter how much we plan – or how easily
we’re able to let the worries go – somehow
the answers work themselves out. To me, it’s
all about trust. Trust in life’s unfolding plan
for us. Trust in the people we’ve selected to
surround us during the birth. And trust in
our own bodies to do what they’re designed
to do.
That’s just what we hope you gain from this
issue – a sense of trust in yourself and the
community you create.
We’re delighted to partner with Birth Without
Fear to bring you the beautiful birth story
from a first time mom who, despite going
2 weeks past her due date, gave birth to a
healthy son at home with the help of her
husband and midwife.
With advice, recipes, and products to make
pregnancy a little easier, this issue serves as
a resource you can return to over and over.
And our community is always here to support
you along the way!
