teaching in flexible learning

Learning & Teaching UPA introduces their newest TEN (Teaching Excellence at Navitas) module.

The final phase of the UPA Flexible Learning Design Program (FLDP) is coming to an end.

However, Learning and Teaching Services will continue to provide support with teaching in Flexible Learning through a new TEN module. Titled Teaching in Flexible Learning, the module will supplement FLDP and build capability with teaching in units that have been redesigned following the Flexible Design model. Teachers will be able to explore strategies for teaching concurrently, which for many, is a new skill needing further professional development.

Adding to the current group of 14 TEN modules, Teaching in Flexible Learning will be offered from November 2021. Using educational technology tools and the incorporation of teacher presence and learner-to-learner interaction, participants will design and develop activities to engage learners as a single cohort and encourage collaborative opportunities for students across the three flexible modes of learning.

The principle of connectivity will be explored, enabling students in all learning modes to engage with each other in meaningful and supportive ways, creating a sense of belonging irrespective of learning mode.

Learning and Teaching Services gained valuable feedback on the design and development of the new module from a focus group of UPA teachers in early September. The team gained understanding of Navitas teachers’ capabilities, knowledge, attitudes, skills, and experience in relation to Flexible Learning, following participation in FLDP, and the online teaching environment more broadly. Co-creation of content and resources with teachers will ensure that teacher needs are addressed in the new module.

Teachers successfully completing Teaching in Flexible Learning will be awarded a Navitas digital badge.
