During the event, FIC ACT members interviewed Ms. Chambers about various topics such as unseeded lands, the proper way to address indigenous peoples, residential schools, significance of totem poles, violence against indigenous women and cultural appropriation.

Given the event was completely asynchronous, it was posted on Instagram once a week for four weeks. Every Friday, we covered one of the above-mentioned topics in the form of short videos and an interview with Treena. All the videos are available to view on the FIC Instagram page @myfic, under the FIC ACT highlights.

FIC ACT was able to reach over 1000 students at FIC through this event. We hope our events motivated students and the entire FIC community to learn more about the Indigenous peoples, their history, and their significance in the present time.

I would like to finish with a quote from Treena in one of her interviews with FIC ACT about the importance of acknowledging the land of Indigenous peoples.

“It is important for all of us to understand our relationship in terms of power and in terms of respect for the people who have cared for and sustained these lands so that we can now share in them.”
