La Trobe College

One of the things that brings me the most joy teaching at La Trobe College Australia is being part of such an important equipping phase in my students’ lives. I coordinate and teach for both our Diploma of Engineering and our Diploma of Information Technology course, both of which lead to technical professions.

What I value most about the challenges encountered in 2020 is we’ve been able to simultaneously teach some of the less tangible skills. Recent studies highlight the increasing need for ‘Soft Skills’ (I prefer the term ‘Power Skills’) and our recent shift to online learning has provided an opportunity to help students learn valuable skills in digital communication, self-management and adaptability.

Additionally, it has been a privilege to be invited (virtually) into the loungerooms, offices, and kitchen tables of students. Together we’ve created robust resources that both empower and provide an inclusive space that is less impacted by geography and time zones.

The world has changed considerably in recent months. I am pleased to see that the education sector is continuing to make changes to support students as they prepare for new and exciting futures.
