Bicycle Motorcross Track 516 Dennis Ave., Lions Park, Raleigh 27603; 919.834.4269 Open to the public, BMX track races here are organized according to age groups and skill levels, enabling everyone to compete fairly. Raleigh’ s BMX program is sanctioned by the American Bicycle Association. Free admission for spectators. Hours vary; call for details.
Durant Nature Park 8305 Camp Durant Rd., Raleigh 27614; 919.870.2871 This 237-acre nature park offers five miles of trails, a playground, picnic areas, nature activities and rental facilities. Program and rental information available by calling the park office. Free admission. Hours: Daily, 8am-sunset.
Lake Johnson Park 4601 Avent Ferry Rd., Raleigh 27606; 919.233.2121 Lake Johnson Park comprises more than 300 acres of land surrounding the lake of 150 + acres. The lake / park offers boating( jonboats, paddleboats, canoes, kayaks, sailboats and personal launches— nonmotorized, non- trailered), picnic shelters, concessions, facility rentals, greenway trails and a vast array of classes, special events and recreational opportunities for the entire family. The lake is great for fishing of largemouth bass, shell cracker, crappie, bream, catfish and carp. Free admission; fee for boat launch and facility rental. Lake Wheeler Park 6404 Lake Wheeler Rd., Raleigh 27603; 919.662.5704 150 acres of parkland and a 650-acre lake offering fishing, sailing, canoeing, rowing and kayaking. The Waterfront Program Center offers programs and classes, a small conference facility and concessions. Picnic facilities and sand volleyball also available. Many special events are held each year. Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center 1905 Spring Forest Rd., Ste. B, Raleigh 27615; 919.872.4128 This public tennis center features 23 lighted, hard-surface courts, as well as a pro shop, conference room and men’ s and women’ s locker rooms. Free admission; courts may be reserved. Hours: Mon.- Fri., 9am-9:30pm; Sat. & Sun., 9am-6pm( except Dec.-Feb.: Mon.-Fri., 9am-6pm; Sat. & Sun., 11am- 3pm).
Pullen Aquatic Center 410 Ashe Ave., Raleigh 27606; 919.831.6197 This Olympic-sized swimming pool is housed in a two-story complex with a classroom, dressing room, a vending area and seating for 300 spectators during competitions. The center also features a warm-water therapy pool that gradually deepens from floor level to four feet to accommodate wheelchairs, non-swimmers and children. Hours vary; call or visit website.

Visitors may enjoy fishing, canoeing, sailing, rowboating, pedalboating, biking, hiking and picnicking. Free admission; fee for boat rentals. Park Hours: Daily, sunrise- sunset.
Town of Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department V
The nationally accredited Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department plans and provides a variety of enjoyable and cost-effective recreation, sports, environmental, historical and cultural arts programs and services to the community. Designated as a FIT Community in 2007, Cary currently has 28 parks and natural areas, a greenway and trails system of more than 58 miles, four sports and entertainment venues and nine facilities with staff to assist you with any questions. In 2008, Cary also was named one of six inaugural members in the“ NCAA Championship City” program; the town will host multiple NCAA Division I, II and III men’ s and women’ s championships through the year 2012. Cary Tennis Park V 2727 Louis Stephens Dr., Cary 27519; 919.462.2061 The Cary Tennis Park is the premier tennis venue of North Carolina and one of the largest in the Southeast, situated on nearly 24 acres with beautiful landscaping and scenic bridges. Cabanas between courts and a snack bar add to the facility’ s appeal. A year-around facility packed with tournaments and events, instructional programming, league play and walk-up play, the tennis park attracts the local community as well as tennis players from across the nation.
