What makes Raleigh delicious
Culinary superstars
While traditional Southern cooking may come to mind, the Raleigh area’ s restaurants and its signature chefs are creating quite the reputation. We can’ t claim to have Emeril or Paula Deen, but we can claim a couple Food Network stars of our own. Angus Barn Executive Chef Walter Royal was crowned winner of an episode of Iron Chef. Ashley Christensen of Poole’ s Diner has received recognition for her restaurant being one of the“ 11 Restaurants Worth the Money” in Gourmet prestigious James Beard Award and an Iron Chef competitor.
Acclaimed chefs are just a part of the Raleigh area’ s national recognition. Their restaurants, with creative menus, unique atmospheres and stellar staffs, have garnered some of AAA’ s Four Diamond ratings.

If you’ ve heard of the Raleigh area’ s $ 3 billion renaissance you may think we’ re all new … but a commitment to tradition and locally sourced products has remained tops on our list. Many items can be purchased at one of the area’ s local farmer’ s markets or at the State Farmers Market, one of the largest in North Carolina and open daily, with more than 100 vendors selling every-thing from fruits and vegetables to the freshest meats and plants in every color, shape and size. You may just run into a chef from Zely & Ritz, Herons or 18 Seaboard, just a few of the local eateries which frequent the market daily.
