One of the most wired cities in the country is now even more connected … the new Raleigh Convention Center is linked with two upscale hotels. The downtown Raleigh“ convention campus” is one of many smart sites for meetings.
Cree Shimmer Wall
Comprised of nearly 80,000 aluminum squares, backlit at night with colorful, energy-saving LED fixtures, the Cree Shimmer Wall represents Raleigh as a“ City of Oaks” while featuring some of the area’ s technology, donated by Cree, Inc.
Home to eight universities and colleges, Greater Raleigh is one of the three corners of North Carolina’ s Research Triangle Region, namesake of The Research Triangle Park( RTP). Founded in 1959, RTP today is the largest continuously operating research park in the nation. It has become home to 170 companies, offering opportunities to more than 42,000 knowledge workers, including Nobel Laureates. It also has spawned more than 1,500 start-up companies since 1970.
Some of the most profound discoveries of the 20th century have been influenced by scientists and researchers working in RTP.
As an internationally prominent high-technology R & D center, RTP is an economic driver for the entire region surrounding Durham and Greater Raleigh.
