VANCE AIR FORCE BASE
Vance Air Force Base, located just south of Enid, is home to the 71st Flying Training Wing and plays a vital role in training the next generation of military aviators. Each year, more than 400 U. S. Air Force and allied student pilots earn their wings at Vance through undergraduate pilot training.
One of the busiest training airfields in the U. S. Air Force, Vance operates a fleet of more than 200 aircraft, including the T-6 Texan II, T-1 Jayhawk, and T-38 Talon, flying over 50,000 sorties and logging approximately 74,000 flying hours annually. While FAA regulations allow lower flight altitudes in sparsely populated areas, Vance aircraft maintain a minimum altitude of 1,000 feet over the City of Enid.
Vance Air Force Base is a cornerstone of the local community, supporting approximately 1,400 active duty and Reserve military members and their families, and employing more than 1,400 civilian and contract personnel, making it a significant contributor to Enid’ s economy and quality of life.
