Issue Sponsor: Wyoming Wranglers: Military Impact on our Community By: Crystal Mancera, Director of Development & Growth The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce’ Wyoming Wranglers committee works diligently to maintain the presence of our Armed Forces in the Cheyenne area. FE Warren Air Force base houses 150 Minuteman III ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Systems). Nuclear deterrence ensures the safety of our nation by being the most immediate response method of retaliation. Cheyenne is lucky to be partnered with FE Warren Air Force Base, a powerful nuclear triad. The 90th Missile Wing alone employs nearly 2,600 military personnel. These individuals maintain the ICBMs that are on full alert 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. The 90th Missile Wing also employs around 1,000 civilian employees. Family members of the assigned military personnel add another 5,445 to the local population. Cheyenne also has more than 5,000 military retirees who reside in the Cheyenne area. This is not including the other branches of our Armed Forces that call the Cheyenne area their home. FE Warren Air Force Base contributes about $364 million a year to the area’s economy. Yet, with sequestration, a continuous threat to our Armed Forces, it is important to do what we can as a community to help retain and accomplish the mission of our Armed Forces. Wyoming Wranglers is the political strength of Cheyenne. Those engaged in the Wyoming Wranglers recognize the importance of all of our Armed Forces in the area not only for the sake of protecting our nation but for the growth and stability of our local economy and personally are investing in the future of our community. Working with military dignitaries, business leaders in the community and with a consultant in DC, Wyoming Wranglers is able to accomplish its objectives through continuous community support and advocacy. Through this advocacy, passions for our Military and community have been ignited, funds have been restored and threats are addressed to ensure a viable military in Cheyenne years from now. Community members are fortunate to have the investments of the Wyoming Wranglers with our consultant in Washington D.C. keeping an eye on policies and regulations which may hinder our home and the future of Cheyenne. Yielding career opportunities and sustaining a solid consumer base for our businesses is the end result when advocating for a lively Armed Forces. There are no limitations when powers work together for a reputable cause.
