Issue Sponsor: Building Cheyenne: A Vision for Our Community By: Jody Levin, Vice President of Government Affairs, Chamber Board In April the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce released a document called “Building Cheyenne’s Future” that calls for a three-pronged strategic action plan based upon issues brought forth by our members in the business community. Broadly, it has two goals: • • Cheyenne-area recognized as a pro-business, business-friendly, economically vibrant community; and Reinvigorate Cheyenne’s core by advocating for and promoting a thriving business culture that embraces use of existing structures ”Building Cheyenne’s Future has started the conversation with City and County officials, but also with organizations and the community at-large about what can be done to improve our community” Since April, the Chamber board and staff have been discussing the elements of this vision with various groups in the community. Questions and issues have been raised during those conversations that warrant clarification about our vision. It is time to reiterate what Building Cheyenne’s Future is all about – it is about Cheyenne, and particularly her core or downtown, being it’s very best. It is that simple. The Chamber’s Action & Advocacy Committee has taken ownership of two parts of the strategy: the policies and principles that guide our Building Cheyenne’s Future efforts and the educational component of advocating for a City Manager or Administrator form of government, which will launch later this fall. PG 48 l Our Community One of our goals with the Building Cheyenne’s Future strategic vision is to have our policies and principles document adopted by both the City Council and County Commission. The policies seek to streamline the process for businesses to locate, relocate, or expand in Cheyenne – it’s the “one stop shop” concept. We also call for greater transparency and ethical standards in local government, while also encouraging pub
