YOUR PARTNERS Partner Spotlight: The Historic Plains Hotel MORGAN MARTIN STEPHANIE JOY MEISNER-MAGGARD When asked how to explain The Historic Plains Hotel’s current phase, new owner, Astrid, explains that the hotel is like an old book that has sat on its shelf for far too long. It is just now getting dusted off, revealing once more its charm, story, and richness, bringing it back to life. Since 1911, the hotel has been a core business residing in the Capital City. It is known for its western roots and appeal, as well as being the first hotel to have phones available in each room for guests. Walls are adorned with impeccable art and on each floor guests are welcomed with the owner’s handpicked antiques. The basement is not open to the public, but it houses the original amenities of the hotel, where guests would enter from the west entrance of the building to go down a stair case. There, they would find showers, mirrors, and sinks. The Plains Hotel only served the best. Therefore, the guests were required to cleanup and then enter the main atrium of the hotel once properly dressed. Also in the basement was a sauna, workout room, and original lockers. Storage for the kitchen is located there as well, and it is argued to have one of the oldest working walk-in refrigerators and freezers in the Nation. When one enters into the lobby of the Plains Hotel, its classy reputation is made apparent. Now, when one enters, they can find detailing of the original tiled flooring, unique railings, a remarkable stained glass ceiling focal point, and many more architectural features to capture the eye. As a Cheyenne native, I grew up knowing that the Plains Hotel is truly a valuable part of our community and an anchor to our 22 | Quarter 4 M 2016
