YOUR GOVERNMENT Wyoming Wranglers at U.S. Chamber WYOMING’S VOICE TE ABIGAIL MARTIN & STEPHANIE JOY MEISNER-MAGGARD ABIGAIL MARTIN on Ground Base Strategic Deterrence (GBSD, also known as the next generation missile) Congressional investment in the military missions in the Cheyenne area is critical to the economy. Through advocacy done by the Defending your interests at our Nation’s Capital was the task at hand for more than 15 local Chamber leaders last week. The Chamber’s Wyoming Wranglers “saddle up” annually to fight for the issues and projects that are most important to the Cheyenne area economy. This year, military and development projects as well as burdensome regulations were the highest priority. Military priorities included: • The Weapons Storage Facility • Helicopters and the Missile Roll Facility at FE Warren • C-130 upgrades including engine and propeller modifications • Communication and navigation upgrades as well as a simulator for the Wyoming Air National Guard, • And cooperatives with other organizations to continue work 18 | Quarter 4 M 2016 Wyoming Wranglers over 120 million dollars were secured for construction projects and 600 plus jobs were ensured. Cheyenne’s economy is more stabilized thanks to diversification outside of coal based industries and government, specifically Wyoming State, employment. Other action items included project development for the proposed Hynds building revitalization, administrative changes to overtime pay, healthcare and environmental rules, as well as advocacy to offset impacts of the Clean Power Plan, which is estimated to increase Wyoming electricity costs by 42% according to a study conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Reducing your cost of doing business through streamlining and correcting burdensome regulations is one of the Chamber’s highest priorities.
