Recent coronavirus shutdowns and cancellations have
forced people to stay closer to home and cut back on spending.
While still scarce in many department stores, many people
have an old bicycle in the garage. With more free time and
less disposable income, people are using bicycles as transportation
or as a healthy and entertaining form of recreation.
Athens Bicycle Shop owner Jeff Little has taken cycling
to new heights and joined a rare group of people who have
pedaled across the southern United States on his own steam.
“I’ve gone from Athens, Texas to Saint Augustine, Florida
on a bicycle,” he said. “A few years later, I came from San
Diego, California to Athens on a bicycle, self-supported.”
Little said he saw really neat things on these trips.
“We spent a few miles on the interstate, but you go through
the smaller towns and camp out,” he said. “It is a much
more leisurely pace and you see more of the country.”
Now, he helps others do the same by keeping their bicycles
