“ We ’ ve taken this event and said let ’ s get more casual with it and let ’ s get more fun with it ,” Craig said . “ Let ’ s get together and talk about what APEF has done and what it ’ s going to do in the future .”
He said he ’ s been visiting a lot of organizations this year trying to get the world out about APEF and the function it serves .
The Athens Independent School District serves about 3,250 students and requires about 550 staff members to do the job . Craig said it ’ s a challenge for districts to teach the student and ensure that they will leave the classrooms ready for life when their 12 years are through .
One of the ways Athens does that is through its Career and Technical Education program . Athens Junior High was named one of the top eight junior high CTE programs in the state .
“ It ’ s a top eight program and yet they ’ re operating out of empty classrooms that were leftovers ,” Craig said . “ Our district is doing an amazing job with the resources at hand and we want to partner with them to make all things better .”
