SEASON RECORD OVERALL 6-4 DISTRICT 2-4
Mabank finishes 2021 just outside of playoff contention
The Mabank Panthers finish the 2020 season above . 500 overall , but just missed out on a playoff seed in one of the toughest districts in East Texas .
With a 6-4 overall finish and 2-4 in District 9-4A , Division I , Mabank coach Zach Hudson said they have great kids at Mabank and even though they were picked to finish last , they have yet to finish in last place .
The Panthers improved from a 4-6 record last year and 1-5 in district play under fourth-year coach Hudson .
“ We competed well in a very tough district just struggled to finish a couple of games ,” Hudson said in the Preseason edition of Fanfare . “ We had to forfeit one district game due to COVID , and play another without practicing for two weeks . Kids did a great job last year and I think we will only get better .”
This year , the Panthers had 18 seniors on the roster and were led defensively by the strong play of Caleb Goforth and Kaizen Burrows at linebacker .
Mabank picked up victories in non-district play against Bullard ( 30-17 ), Kemp ( 48-6 ), Wills Point ( 49-0 ) and Canton ( 35- 21 ). In district play , they picked up a 33-30 victory on the road at Palestine and a 28-21 victory over Henderson in overtime .
They were led by transfer quarterback Beau Kilgore and strong play along the offensive and defensive line this season .
With the new district realignments headed our way in February , the Panthers could see another strong run in 2022 under coach Hudson .
