Although the Safari Waters Quilters each have a different reason as to why they are crafting quilts for veterans , the outcome is the same – an incredible work of art given with the hope that when that veteran experiences dark times or needs the warmth of a grateful hug , the quilt will be there to provide the comfort they have sewn into every seam .
The SWQ made a commitment on Veterans Day 2021 that they would present a quilt to every veteran who would accept one in the Safari Waters neighborhood by Veterans Day 2022 . These quilts are given to those “ touched by war ” or affected by war in direct and indirect ways .
The SWQ decided to begin with their neighborhood because they are fortunate to have 64 residents who have served in the military in some capacity . Forty-nine quilts have been presented so far at various neighborhood events and also in private ceremonies over the last year .
They have also given two quilts to veterans outside of the neighborhood and they hope to continue to distribute them throughout the community .
