Features Valedictory Dinner – Class of 2016 sent off in style A fun-filled Melbourne Park Function Centre was packed to the rafters on Tuesday 18 October, as 754 boys, parents and teachers celebrated the end of the school careers of Scotch’s Class of 2016. The event was hosted by the Old Scotch Collegians’ Association. OSCA Executive Director, Scott Montgomery (‘85) and School Captain, Lachlan Strathmore – masters of ceremonies – introduced the Principal, Mr Tom Batty, who thanked the Year 12 boys for their wholehearted participation in the life of the school, for their leadership, good humour and for the role models they had been for the younger boys. He thanked the parents for supporting the boys throughout their school lives, and for the strong foundation they had helped to build for each boy. Responding on behalf of the class, School Captain Lachlan Strathmore also thanked the parents for all they had done for the boys. Rev Graham Bradbeer, OSCA Chaplain, performed the traditional Ode to the Haggis with his usual flair; and next the Pipe Band, led by Pipe Major Cameron Webb, took the floor. Abraham Shamshad, School Vice Captain and Chairman of the Class of 2016 Committee, followed with his toast to the staff and the school, delivered with style and passion. Richard Stubbs – comedian, broadcaster and former Wesley College captain – amused boys, parents and teachers with some amusing remarks laced with helpful advice. The evening concluded in the traditional way, with the boys leading their mothers to the dance floor. It was a most successful event, and one that will live long in the memories of boys and parents. 22 ABOVE AND RIGHT: STUDENTS FROM THE CLASS OF 2016 CELEBRATE THEIR VALEDICTORY DINNER WITH PARENTS AND STAFF.
