The Head: ‘Well, let me compliment you on your initiative — but
don’t you ever do such a thing again!’
Bruce said that although OSCA has had a home at Scotch since
1973, the Association has never had a readily identifiable presence on
the campus. The idea of OSCA House, he said, would appeal to the
wider Old Boy community. ‘I hope Old Boys will enjoy visiting OSCA
House, either as individuals, year group reunion committees, or as
OSCA club groups’.
Joint guest of honour, Paul Mishura (an Old Geelong Collegian),
said he first became interested in Scotch’s history when, fossicking
through memorabilia in a Geelong antique shop, he came across a
photograph of the 1907 Scotch prefects. Paul contacted the then
Archivist, Geoff Tolson (‘39), who invited him to the School and took
him on a guided tour.
Paul began volunteering in the Archives in 1995, and was
appointed to the specially-created position of Assistant Archivist in
2008. He became the School Archivist in 2012. Paul spoke about
the work of the Archives, and the benefits to the Scotch Foundation
flowing from preserving the School’s history, and how that makes
Scotch Family members feel good about the School.
Later in the evening Doug Lording presented Geoff Paton (‘57) with
a certificate honouring his membership of the Forbes Society, and
thanked Geoff for his generous contributions to the School as a major
benefactor.
Director of Development, Tim Shearer (‘85) was the MC for dinner,
and kept the evening running smoothly. Foundation Coordinator,
Rebecca Mortimer skilfully organised the event.
