FINN MAGINNESS ('19)
TWO OLD BOYS
DRAFTED BY AFL CLUBS
Two young Old Boys from Scotch’s Class of 2019 were selected
by AFL clubs in last November’s AFL National Draft.
Finn Maginness was selected by Hawthorn at pick number 39.
A hard-working midfielder, Finn was Captain of Football and Captain
of Athletics at school, and he was awarded the Don Davenport
Medal for ‘outstanding contribution to Scotch athletics’. In the under
18 NAB League, Finn played for the Sandringham Dragons, and was
selected in the Vic Metro team in the AFL under 18 championships.
His father, Scott, was Captain of Football and School Vice Captain in
his final Scotch year of 1984. He went on to play 131 games for the
Hawks, and was a premiership player in his first two AFL seasons.
Essendon chose Lachie Johnson at pick number 63. Lachie is a
smart, long-kicking midfielder with very good defensive skills, who
is also strong in contested football. Lachie played for the Oakleigh
Chargers in the NAB League, and he was a member of the 1st
XVIII at school. Like Finn, Lachie has an excellent football pedigree:
his father, Chris, played 59 AFL games with Fitzroy, and 205 at
Brisbane where he was a triple premiership player.
