OSCA
FUN AND FELLOWSHIP FOR MORE THAN 140 GUESTS AT
THE FOURTH ANNUAL SCOTCH FAMILY CHINESE NEW
YEAR DINNER, IN THE BOYKETT ROOM ON 27 FEBRUARY
THE YEAR OF THE
RAT VERY WELL
CELEBRATED
Great company, unique entertainment and fine food
More than 140 guests got together in the Cardinal
Pavilion’s Boykett Room on the fine, cool evening of Thursday
27 February for the fourth annual Scotch Family Chinese
New Year Dinner – hosted by OSCA and celebrating the Year
of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac cycle. The dinner, like its
predecessors, was a very successful and enjoyable event.
The sounds of Scotland greeted the guests, who were
piped in by Old Scotch piper Ryan Luke (’15). Then they
mingled on the balcony and in the Boykett Room, enjoying
each other’s company, as well as canapés and drinks, while
they were entertained by a troupe of dancers performing a
traditional and very colourful Lion Dance.
After welcoming guests with some well-chosen
Mandarin Chinese phrases, OSCA Executive Director, Scott
Montgomery (‘85), handed over to the School Principal, Tom
Batty, who reiterated Scott’s welcoming remarks.
Guest speaker, Yelian He (‘02), spoke warmly about
his education at Scotch, and his subsequent career as a
classical concert cellist. Yelian, who was born in Shanghai,
began studying the cello at the age of five.
A delicious dinner of steamed kingfish and braised pork
belly, followed by mango and coconut sago pudding and
Chinese raspberry snowflake cake, preceded virtuoso
performances by the Australian DunHuang Arts Academy.
The hard work of the organising committee – Michelle
Wang, Katrina Gu, Lin Miao, Scott Montgomery and Caroline
Taylor — ensured that the event would again be memorable
and very successful.
