but 11 hikers achieved the fabled milestone
of hiking more than 100km.
The Andrew Kelso Award, for the greatest
distance hiked, went to Harry Shao (Year 11)
who hiked 116.2 km, and the Roger Slade
Award for the greatest distance by a Year 9
hiker was shared by Oliver Weir and Joshua
Qin (91.9 km).
This hike would not have been possible
without the assistance of both boys and
staff. Whether it be cooking in the kitchen
under the keen eye of Ms Kurvink, or
working on the administration table, making
sure all hikers were safe and accounted for,
or manning one of the two out-camps, these
boys and teachers ensured that the hike ran
smoothly. Mr Oatley, in particular, deserves
a huge thank you for all of the effort he put
into planning and executing such a fantastic
event.
The 24 Hour Hike has become an integral
part of the Scotch calendar, and the success
of this year’s event has continued a great
tradition of charitable fundraising, setting
and breaking personal goals, and Scotch
collegiality and camaraderie.
