A VERY
INTERESTING
SEASON FOR
SOCCER CLUB
A big Presentation Night at Scotch in the Cardinal Pavilion’s
Boykett Room on 12 October brought down the curtain on another
very interesting season for the Old Scotch Soccer Club. Although the
firsts struggled with major injury issues all year, they played some
scintillating football at times and finished one game off fifth place on
the ladder.
After some early thrashings the reserves flourished from mid-year
under rookie coach Lucas Morrey, to come home a strong third. The
thirds battled along most of the year, but showed great improvement
as they became more organised.
Two big ‘Grudgement Days’ took place at our home ground, H A
Smith Reserve, between the Blues and the Cardinals as they battled
it out in the Sunday Metro 2 South-East competition, with the Blues
pipping the Cardinals by just a point to win their division. The new

Fairview team struggled for numbers at times (more players wanted!)
but battled out the year.
At the Presentation Night, best and fairest winners were: Nick
Shearer (‘17) (seniors), Kimon Diamantopoulos (reserves), Tao Wang
(thirds), Tim Davidson (Cardinals), Nicky Barton (Blues) and Henry
Ma (Fairview). Golden Boot awards went to Jevan Cevik (seniors),
Mike Sparks (‘18) (reserves) Jason Choi (‘07) (thirds) Nick Jewitt (‘03)
(Cardinals), Chisanga Tee (Blues) and Stefan Fabbian (Fairview). Club
person of the year was shared by Julie Beamish and Lewis Parrett.
Also, congratulations to the goalkeeping and ex-Presidents’
union – at the Presentation Night, Tim Ward and Daniel Giesen-White
were awarded life membership after their great work for the club over
more than 10 years.
