better. Katherine’s commitment to the boys in
her care was very much evident in her role as
a Years 7/8 Form Teacher, where she helped
cushion the bumps and clear the fog of early
adolescence for each boy.
She also coached soccer, futsal, volleyball
and cross country, and was involved in the Year
9 Outdoor Expedition, the Year 10 Activities
Program, and debating. Katherine helped lead
the 2014 Nepal trek, and took leadership of the
Indigenous Partnership Program.
JAMES DE ROZARIO
Appointed as Head of
Strings from Term 2,
2005, James led and
nurtured a department
that is greatly
admired throughout
Australia. An astute
eye for detail, strong
work ethic and ability to muster the best
from a group by building relationships have
developed and maintained the highest musical
standards. James has conducted ensembles
and orchestras of all levels and abilities,
including the Academy Strings, the Symphony
Orchestra, the Intermediate Symphony
Orchestra, the Henri Touzeau, Junior School
and Year 4 Orchestras, and many chamber
groups and string quartets. James was also
Musical Director of the Scotch/PLC musical,
Oh! What a Lovely War, in 2015. He has
accompanied numerous music tours, and was
an Arthur Robinson House tutor for three years.
KEITH HOY
Appointed to a
temporary position
in 2010, Keith was
appointed to a
permanent position
in Design and
Technology in 2011,
and he has since
taught Design and Technology to classes
at Years 7 and 8, Years 9 and 10 electives
in Resistant Materials, Product Design and
Electronics and VCE Systems Engineering.
Keith has also taught Art to Years 7 and 8.
Keith’s teaching was characterised by his
passion for the subject, his care and attention
to detail and his commitment to excellence.
Keith contributed substantially to Scotch life
beyond the classroom. He was a tutor in the
House system, coach and Teacher-in-Charge

of both Hockey and Diving, and an enthusiastic
contributor to the Year 10 Activities Program.
BEC MARSHALL
Bec Marshall began
at Scotch in 2014
in the Development
Office, and then
moved to OSCA, most
recently taking on the
role of OSCA Events
and Community
Administrator.
Bec very capably managed the Scotch
College Foundation’s Sir Zelman Cowen
Centre for Science campaign launch in
October 2016, before she moved across to
OSCA. Bec delivered high-quality events such
as the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner and the
OSCA Annual Dinner, and she played a crucial
role in the establishment of the Young Old
Boys’ Committee, improvements in the Year 12
merchandise selections, and raising OSCA’s
profile on social media. We much appreciated
Bec’s smile, enthusiasm, and passion for
the job, and her willingness to take a positive
involvement in Scotch and OSCA activities.
MARTIN
MIODUSZEWSKI
Martin Mioduszewski
came to Scotch in
September 2009
as ICT Technician
in Information and
Communication
Technology. For
almost 10 years, Martin assisted staff and
departments troubleshoot and solve their ICT
technical issues, and was the technical lead
responsible for establishing the countless
desktop images for the Windows environment.
Martin’s technical skills, calm and helpful
demeanour, professionalism, his focus and
desire to fully understand the problems being
faced by staff, and his willingness to fully
research issues, ensured a positive outcome
and a long-term solution.
As well as his role in ICT, Martin also
enjoyed assisting with the Outdoor Activity
Program, sharing his skills in Ninjitsu with the
Year 10 students. Martin completed a Master
of Business Administration (MBA), to enhance
his skills.
MIKE STEELE
Mike Steele
commenced in the
role of Director of
Rowing Coaches in
October 2017, and
held this position until
August 2019. Mike’s
role was to assist in
employing, inducting and training the rowing
coaches for each rowing season. During each
season he worked closely with the coaching
panel to enable each coach to provide the best
possible experience for Scotch rowers.
Mike’s strong organisational skills and
background in coaching at school, club and
national level ensured that all compliance and
employment matters were well managed.
MICHAEL URWIN
After a distinguished
career in school
leadership, Michael
joined our staff in
2014 to teach Chinese
and Mathematics
part-time. Michael has
since guided boys to
greater fluency with characters and Pinyins,
and to a richer understanding of the Chinese
culture, all with characteristic selflessness,
care, good humour and success. Michael also
taught Years 8 and 9 Mathematics.
He supported Junior School boys of the
Chinese Language club, and was a coach and
Teacher-in-Charge of Year 10 soccer.
KYLE WARREN
Appointed to a
teaching role with
the Pipes and
Drums in 2015,
Kyle taught pipes
to boys of all year
levels and abilities,
setting the highest
of standards. Under his tutelage, boys have
claimed Victorian championships, Australian
championships (one adult and one juvenile),
and a second placing in the novice juvenile
division of the European championships.
Kyle prepared boys for the Foundation Day
Concert, the Cadet Tattoo and the Anzac Day
March, and accompanied the band on three
tours of Scotland, always ensuring the highest
standards of music and dress.
