Farewell to Class of 2017
Valedictory Dinner Class of 2017
Boys, parents and teachers – well over 700 of them – got together in a great
atmosphere of celebration for the 2017 Year 12 Valedictory Dinner, held at
Melbourne Park Function Centre on 24 October.
This memorable annual event was as usual hosted by the Old Scotch
Collegians’ Association.
Following the welcome by the Masters of Ceremonies – OSCA
Executive Director, Scott Montgomery (‘85) and School Captain, Michel
Nehme – the Principal, Tom Batty, praised the Class of 2107 as excellent
role models who had contributed greatly throughout their journey at
Scotch. He thanked the parents for entrusting their sons’ education to
Scotch, and for the support they had provided for the boys during their
school careers. In his response, William Sutherland, Vice Captain, said it

had been a privilege to lead the Class of 2017, and toasted the staff and
school for making it so special.
A highlight of the evening is always the Haggis Ceremony, during which
OSCA Chaplain Rev Graham Bradbeer performed the traditional Ode to
a Haggis with skill and Scottish flair. Then the Pipe Band entertained the
guests. A most successful evening concluded with the boys inviting their
mothers to join them on the dance floor.
