EXCELLING AS A BALLKID
During the Australian Open tennis in January, Tom Prior (Year
10) made an excellent impression with his work as a ballkid. He
had been one of 360 boys and girls selected from more than 2500
applicants for the opportunity to act as ballkids during the Open.
It was Tom’s third year as a ballkid during the tournament,
In 2018 he even made mainstream media for a clash courtside
with Spaniard, Roberto Bautista Agut, ranked world number 25.
This year he was regarded as one of the best ballkids, earning him
selection as one of the ballkids for the men’s final between Rafael
Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Only a handful of boys and girls are
given this opportunity, and Tom will no doubt remember his role in
the men’s final for the rest of his life.
Tom’s good work has been further recognised. He has been
offered the opportunity to travel to China to officiate at the China
Open in September, as part of a Tennis Australia program.

to showcase his skills against the top young talent in each state. He
made a top score of 48 against New South Wales and performed
well in his leadership role. The Victorian Metro team won three
