of Jude Hallum, set the night off to a sparkling opening. The polished
performance by the String Orchestra under the baton of the wonderful
Amberley Bremner was exceptional, and the choir sounded beautiful,
lovingly coached and directed by the Head of Junior School Music,
Jenni Thom.
As always, the year ended with the Summer Prom and the Carol
Service, featuring all the senior choirs, directed by Andrew Hunter and Jo
Blankfield. The Prom was a lovely night. David Musk set the night off with
the Symphonic Wind playing Flourish for Wind Band by Vaughan Williams,
followed by the Academy Strings under James de Rozario, Head of
Strings, performing C P E Bach’s Symphony in G. The concert concluded
with the Symphony Orchestra playing Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, the
Unfinished, and then the star of the night (bringing this short article to
a rounded finale), was Leon Fei. Leon played the Carmen Variations by
Sarasate – a real violin showpiece. The orchestra accompanied superbly,
and a rousing standing ovation resulted in a reprise of the last movement!
It was a great night, and a joyous end to the concert calendar for 2018.
On Sunday 17 March, our pipers celebrated St Patrick’s Day by
gaining a stack of prizes at the Victorian State Championships in Geelong.
They won first place in grade three, novice juvenile A, and novice juvenile
B, and second place in grade four marches. A grand day out.
