The congratulations of all in the Scotch community go to the boys of the Class of 2017 for outstanding VCE and ATAR results that open doors of opportunity and further advance aspirations. Scotch embraces the pursuit of academic rigour knowing it is the key to unravelling the most stubborn of conundrums, articulating ideas and effecting endeavour. We are, however, acutely aware that future prosperity and harmony is built on qualities far harder to list in rank order across the state.
With grace, good humour and growing resonance of voice, those of the Class of 2017 considered, questioned and sought to enhance the Scotch experience for all. Whether welcoming visitors from Tiwi College into their lives, giving their all as a member of a team, orchestra, band, company or crew, or designing, manufacturing and donating a music therapy table to a local hospital, they showed the empathy, purpose and enterprise to identify, and conjure solutions to, the challenges and opportunities of their age.
Whilst the tables below provide analysis of their results, the true magnitude of the success of the boys, their teachers and their families, lies in each boy’ s journey across the broad canvas of our School and the rich diversity emanating from our non-selective entry. Over the course of their Scotch years, the Class of 2017 convinced that they would do their bit, do it well and do it to the best of their abilities.
Such confidence is testament to the care, skill and commitment of many, and my thanks and congratulations go to all involved: boys, members of staff and parents.
To the Class of 2017, you have been an outstanding group of young men. It has been a privilege to share this stage of your journey, and I thank you for all you have given to your School. You have sought to shape Scotch to your world, just as you should. In promoting the inherent value of each of your fellow Scotchies and committing to building something better for those to follow, you have advanced the values and principles of our foundation. What you now do defines what we have done, so, when the time is right, come back, fill in the gaps and share your stories: we want to know what you make of it all.
