Holistic care for every Junior School boy
Scotch College seeks to form enlightened learners of good character and therefore we must recognise that every Scotch Collegian is a whole that is more than the sum of his parts.
Each of our wonderful Scotchies is a complex arrangement of physical, social, emotional and spiritual elements that combine to produce something unique and beautiful.

HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL
As our Junior School boys progress on their developmental pathways, each of their constituent parts is challenged and tested regularly. Whether it be their academic abilities, their sporting prowess, their musicality or even their social skills, the aim of the Junior School( and arguably every Primary School) is to create opportunity for them to grow holistically in preparation for their future.
Over the course of last year, we took time to look internally at the structures we have within the Junior School to help create authentic and impactful support for each boy, his family and his teachers.
This year we initiated the Stage Leader roles of‘ Head of Prep to Year 2’,‘ Head of Years 3 and 4’ and‘ Head of Years 5 and 6’, replacing the previous Year Level Coordinator model. This model was designed with the holistic development of every Junior School boy at its heart and such that those in stage leader roles have the time and capacity to enable the most positive impact.
The Junior School journey can be divided into three key stages of learner development. Prep to Year 2 centres on the development of foundational skills such as learning to read – Kindling Foundations. Years 3 and 4 are largely where each boy develops a sense of independence in learning and builds
