SCENES FROM SUMMER SPORTS INCLUDING THE CELEBRATION IN ASSEMBLY OF THE 1ST VIII ' s VICTORY IN THE HEAD OF THE RIVER
Captain Lachlan Francis ( Year 12 ) was dominant with the ball and was subsequently selected for the APS representative game , taking four wickets in that game . Ed Winneke ( Year 10 ) and Paddy Burchard ( Year 11 ) were our best performed batsmen .
The sailing squads enjoyed a highly successful season with the 1st and 2nd Squads performing exceptionally in the preliminary rounds of the Victorian State Sailing Championships . Both crews qualified for the finals in second and third positions . Despite quarter final wins , both crews were eliminated at the semi-final stage to finish equal fourth .
The orienteering team enjoyed a positive season to finish second to Camberwell Grammar School in the battle for the Roger Slade Trophy . Jiamu Li ( Year 11 ) finished a narrow second in the A grade individual competition over 10km . The golf program included a series of fixtures at Kew Golf Club against St Kevin ’ s , Trinity Grammar School and Camberwell Grammar . Our boys performed strongly and finished second to Camberwell Grammar .
The Victorian Interschool Cycling Series saw Scotch perform consistently to finish fifth in the teams competition . Luke Bodle ( Year 9 ) was our best junior cyclist , finishing 19th in junior A grade , while William Ashley ( Year 12 ) was our best senior cyclist , finishing fifth in senior B grade . Despite their best efforts , the 1st Touch Football team struggled to win games , and the best performance was a draw against Xavier . Unfortunately , adverse weather and cancellations impacted on the boys ’ season , with limited fixtures . The 10A Touch Football team was our best performed team and was undefeated until the grand final against Brighton Grammar School , losing by one try .
The Scotch squash program grew considerably this year . In a competition with only two other schools , Scotch had four of the six teams competing in the firsts competition . Our boys enjoyed a highly successful season , with the Scotch Gold team defeating our Red team in the final round to take out the unofficial title . The Old Scotch Athletics Club program produced some outstanding results , with great signs for the APS season later in the year . Bart Leeton ( Year 9 ) continued to dominate his age groups and qualified in the 800 , 1500 and 3000 metres events . His performance of 8.32.99 in the 3000m at the Box Hill Classic broke the state record in his age group . Seven other Scotch boys also qualified for the nationals in Brisbane during the Term 1 holidays . Amazingly , Rory Vial ( Year 11 ) also qualified for the under 20 World Cross Country Championship .
The following boys were involved in the annual APS vs AGS representative matches at the conclusion of the summer season : cricket – Lachlan Francis ; futsal – Lucas Green ; table tennis – Enzhi Gu ( Year 10 ), Kenny Wu ( Year 9 ); volleyball – Joshua Cutchie , Caleb Lingwood-Smith ( both Year 12 ).
Overall , it has been a very successful summer season , for the program and for all under-age boys . Sports offer a great deal and provide opportunity for growth and development . It has been most pleasing to see the boys enjoy and value this experience . With the closure of the summer sports season , the boys quickly switched their attention to preparing for the winter season .
