A VERY SUCCESSFUL
SUMMER SEASON FOR BOYS AT ALL
LEVELS
SUMMER SEASON OFFERED MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Scotch performed strongly across most sports at senior level during the summer season . Our rowers were our standout team , with the 1st VIII once again winning the Head of the River . It is the 16th time in 19 attempts in winning this event and continues an amazing record for the Boat Club . The 1st Crew also won the Victorian State Championships and the Barwon and Henley regattas , and finished fourth at the National Championships in Perth . The 10A crew came an impressive third at the nationals , which bodes well for the future .
The swimming squad backed up an impressive 2022 with another second place to a dominant St Kevin ’ s College in the APS finals . One APS and five school records were broken in the pool . Impressively , Eric He ( Year 10 ) won four events and finished a narrow second from his five events . The under 16 4 x 200m backstroke relay comprising George Xie , Alex Haigh ( both Year 9 ) William Watkins and Hamish Robson ( both Year 10 ), won their event and subsequently broke the APS record . Captain Harry Hay ( Year 12 ) performed exceptionally , breaking the open 200m freestyle school record . Tom Roach ( Year 9 ) continued to impress in the multi-class events , breaking another two school records . The swimming squad also achieved a strong second in the All Schools Relay Championships .
The diving squad ended the season on a high with a third overall placing in the APS finals . Lachlan Gumley ( Year 9 ) finished
third in the under 16A division and Angus Ischia ( Year 10 ), in his first year of diving , came an impressive fourth in the under 17A division . The strength of our performance was consistency in both divisions , and Tom Nikolopoulos ( Year 8 ) and Jack Collins ( Year 9 ) both finished second in the B division events for under 14 and under 15 age groups .
The 1st Table Tennis and Volleyball teams were right in the mix in their respective competitions , both finishing third . We struggled to take opportunities in key fixtures in these sports , but the boys should be commended on a very positive season . Similarly , the 1st Badminton and Futsal teams performed consistently to finish fourth . The futsal team was highly competitive but a series of narrow losses impacted on their final placings . Captain Lucas Green ( Year 12 ) was again a standout performer for the team .
Both our 1st VIII Tennis and 1st XI Cricket teams have undergone significant change this season . In tennis , Ashton Coster ( Year 8 ) rose to play at number three for the season and won the majority of his singles and doubles matches . The squad won five and lost five games to finish sixth overall .
The cricket team started promisingly with a big win in the opening round against Wesley . However we struggled with the bat , and despite controlling the game for large periods , our inability to post a score meant we fell short of winning games .
