FROM THE SUMMER PROM TO WINTER IN PARIS

SUCCESSFUL CONCERT SEASON PRECEDES TRIUMPHANT OVERSEAS TOUR
Term 4 2022 concluded with the Summer Prom concert . It is really a concert season , comprising the Percussion Concert on the last Monday of term , the Prom Concert on the Tuesday and the Carol Service on the Wednesday .
Jude Hallum ’ s legendary percussion concert delights the audience annually , and a great many former percussion students come to the concert and participate in the general percussive celebration . Thomas Lin ( Year 11 2022 ) deserves special mention for a brilliant performance on the marimba , but the standard across the board was quite exceptional .
The ‘ Prom ’ the following evening opened with a tribute to that master of American light music , Leroy Anderson , performed by
the Symphonic Wind under the direction of David Musk . Notable concert highlights included an evocative and haunting melody by the Ukrainian composer , Myroslav Skoryk , performed by the Academy Strings , conducted by Ben Castle .
Also notable was a performance of the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto in A minor by Jun Gardiner – still in Year 6 at the time – with the Symphony Orchestra conducted by me ; and , following the Acting Principal ’ s announcement of the 2023 Music Leaders , the evening concluded with Eric Coates ’ timeless classic theme for the 1955 British film , The Dam Busters .
The Carol Service on the Wednesday night featured all the choirs , conducted by Andrew Hunter and Jo Blankfield , and the
