THE 24 HOUR HIKE IS ALL ABOUT PERSEVERANCE , TEAMWORK , DETERMINATION – AND FUN . IT ’ S ALSO A GREAT FUNDRAISER : THIS YEAR $ 51,000 WAS RAISED FOR SPUR AFRIKA .

EXPERIENCE FOR 119 BOYS

right direction . And that is precisely what so many of our boys did this year , with 16 Scotchies completing the holy grail of 100km .
One of the best parts of supporting this event is helping the boys out who are exhausted , nearing the end of their 24 hours , but determined to reach their goal . This year Joshua Qin wanted to run his last 10km loop , aptly named Jonny ’ s Jog ( of his total 111.5km ), and I was ready to put my hand up to support him .
Seeing this young person so determined to set his record was inspirational , and I hope that I was of some help to him ( although admittedly I was a tad concerned as the group took off , including Mr Edward Elder (’ 09 ), at a rather fast pace ). But the smile and gratitude on Josh ’ s exhausted face as he literally sprinted back into base was priceless . This is where memories are made and stories
told , and I am not sure that anything but a 24 Hour Hike can match that .
Well done to everyone involved , and for the funds you raised for Spur Afrika . You were all amazing !
For NOAH DALL of Year 12 – one of the 16 boys who hiked over 100km – the 24 Hour Hike is a challenge that pushes him to his limits . He said :
Reaching 110.5km , the second time I ’ ve managed to achieve the heavily sought-after 100km milestone , was a true test of my endurance and perseverance . But it wasn ' t just about the physical challenge . The 24 Hour Hike demands mental toughness and a willingness to push through pain and discomfort . It ' s an experience that teaches you about your own limits and how to overcome them .
What struck me most this year was the drive and determination demonstrated by many of the groups to reach that 100km milestone – with some groups even
running parts of the hike to get there . The camaraderie and team spirit on display were truly remarkable .
Everyone participating helped get behind the charity the hike supported this year – Spur Afrika – to help raise tens of thousands of dollars through sponsors , which is absolutely incredible .
The amazingly well-organised administration , cooking and first aid teams , as well as the commitment from teachers who gave up their own time , are what make this awesome event possible and why it runs as smoothly as it does .
The 24 Hour Hike has become a highlight of my time at Scotch , a challenge that pushes me to my limits and brings together the school community in a unique way . I ’ m going to miss it in the years to come . www . scotch . vic . edu . au Great Scot 27
