ALL 12 HOUSES NOW HAVE A DEDICATED ROOM
As the 2022 academic year got underway , four of our Senior School Houses found a new home around St Andrew ’ s Square . The result of a major redesign of the ground floor of the Language building , the House rooms provide a space for students in Eggleston , Field , Fleming and Littlejohn to meet , and include locker facilities and a kitchenette . There are also tables that are used for study , eating lunch or playing games . Each room opens up onto the square , with easy access to the Keon-Cohen Dining Hall . Towards the back of each room is an office for the Head of House .
Boys have warmly welcomed the new rooms . Previously these Houses had lockers located in the main Quadrangle , and they often needed to visit other House rooms to use their amenities . In particular the refreshingly cool drinking water and instant boiling water have been appreciated . Being able to store their food in a fridge and then use the microwave to warm it up has made lunchtime meals more palatable .
Before and after school , boys can be found completing work , while at lunchtime they are often battling out electronic games , strategically playing chess , or just enjoying a chat . The new facilities provide a great way to get everyone together . Boys from different year levels are mixing , and there is a greater sense of belonging to their House . The House colours and name feature in the designs above the sink , helping to provide an identity to each room . Already Heads of Houses have decorated the rooms with House photographs , mottos and flags .
All 12 Houses now have a dedicated room , all located around the back quadrangle – two in the western corners of the main Quadrangle , six in the former Junior Science building and the four newest rooms in the Language building . The remaining space in the ground floor of the Language building has been used for five staff offices , a meeting room , a secretarial office and toilets for staff and students
