BOARDING PROJECT UP AND RUNNING
TRANSFORMING BOARDING FACILITIES ON THE HILL
Enhancement works in the boarding precinct have commenced , and rapid progress has been made as we look to improve the facilities for boys and staff who live on the Hill . At the time of writing , the Year 12 accommodation ‘ backblocks ’ behind McMeckan and School Houses have been gutted in preparation for their extensive refurbishment and connection to their respective houses . It is hoped the Boarding Project will be complete in readiness for the 2023 school year .
This project demonstrates the School ’ s commitment to boarding ’ s place at the heart of a Scotch education . The Boarding Project will transform boarding facilities on the Hill for boys , staff and boarding families . Improved accommodation for boys and staff associated with McMeckan and School Houses , and a new Boarding Centre , will significantly enrich the lives of all who call the Hill home .
There are seven stages of work , some of which have been completed in recent years :
• Dean of Boarding Residence ( Isabella Lawson Lodge – completed 2018 )
• Refurbishment of Boarders ’ Dining Hall ( completed 2019 )
• Creation of new laundry ( completed 2022 )
• Refurbishment , extension and integration of McMeckan and School House boarding wings ( in progress )
• Conversion of the old laundry into a new Boarding Centre ( to commence this year )
• Creation of a village green ( 2023 )
• Reinstatement of Callantina / Glenferrie Road gates to commemorate the centenary of the School ’ s move to Hawthorn ( 2024 )
A fundraising target of $ 7.5M has been established for this project , and thanks to the generosity of our community , I report that $ 3.6M in commitments has been secured at the time of writing .
