Our boys and the school community warmly welcomed an uninterrupted summer sport season . After significant challenges over the last two years , it is great that some normality has returned , with regular fixtures and lots of smiles on boys ’ faces . Amazingly , Scotch did not cancel a single fixture in the summer season . We certainly shone with some outstanding performances in our senior teams and within our junior programs
The Head of the River win by our 1st VIII crew was an outstanding achievement , and will be remembered for years to come . Our crew had experienced some ups and downs throughout the season , but under the leadership of coach , Tom Woodruff , and Captain , Maxim Jeremijenko , our boys found a way to perform when it counted most . They powered through the course to win by a comfortable margin ahead of Melbourne Grammar School and St Kevin ’ s College .
Our Year 9 Quads also dominated at the Head of the River , with some excellent performances on the day across all of the crews competing . The 1st VIII backed up the following week at the National Rowing Championships , to finish second .
Volleyball has captured the interest of all at school with the positioning of a net on the boarders ’ lawn , arguably the catalyst for a premiership . Scotch finished equal top with Carey Grammar School , and delivered its first premiership since 2012 . Nail-biting wins against Xavier College and Wesley College were key fixtures , as our boys held their nerve to deliver season-defining wins . The team richly deserves this result , as the boys worked tirelessly on their skills and teamed together well over the preseason , winning all games in the lead-up to the season .
Our swimming team looked to build on a promising 2021 season , and started with some impressive lead-up meets and also a victory in the All Schools Relay Championships . It was the first time in over 15 years that Scotch had defeated St Kevin ’ s in a major meet . On APS finals night , with a revamped program , our boys were able to challenge for top position but fell short to finish in a still impressive second position .
Several Scotch records were broken at the All Schools Relay Championships , including two individual records by Dominic Tsui ( Year 12 ) in the 50 metres breaststroke with a time of 30.71 seconds ,
