CHAIRMAN
MR ALEX SLOAN (' 71 ) SCHOOL COUNCIL CHAIRMAN

THE IMPORTANCE OF RESILIENCE

The last two years of the COVID pandemic have tested everyone – every institution , every family and every individual .
These kinds of unexpected and tumultuous events put us all to the test : can we adapt our lives and our work to navigate the challenges that have emerged ? How do we come out the other side better not worse for the experience , and what learnings , individually and collectively , can we take forward to prepare ourselves for the next event ?
The experience of coming through adversity can make us stronger and hopefully better equipped to cope with the next challenge . Resilience is the critical quality in life that can allow us to bounce back from adversity . Once experienced and understood , resilience
can become an essential tool in an ever-changing world .
As I think back over the last 24 months it is very clear to me that the Scotch community has exhibited great resilience .
Your Council is particularly grateful for the efforts of all staff – efforts that have allowed the School to bounce back to relative normality , having delivered some very fine results in the meantime , in very difficult circumstances . We owe much to our Principal , Tom Batty , who also has demonstrated great resilience and dexterity over the past two years in his leadership of the School . I again thank Tom on behalf of the Scotch Family for this , and for his outstanding contribution over the past 14 years .
