SCOTCH ’ S PIPES AND DRUMS ENTHUSIASTICALLY WELCOMED THE 2022 SEASON

GREAT TO BE BACK , LIVE

A return to competitive action for the Scotch Pipes and Drums brought a great sense of anticipation and excitement . After two years of Zoom lessons , online band rehearsals , and longing to return to play in front of real people instead of faces on the screen , the 2022 local pipe band competition season felt long overdue and was welcomed by all with open arms .
In preparation , the pipe band boys had a week-long camp on Phillip Island using the excellent Scotch-at-Cowes facilities . There were new young faces in the bands , and we were lucky to have some special guest
instructors to provide their musical expertise . Music can excel in connecting people : the sense of togetherness and community by the end of camp was apparent for all , with the boys having worked hard but also having had fun fostering relationships with their peers . Camp concluded with an informal public performance in Cowes that was enthusiastically received by the large audience .
The first competition this season was in the familiar Scotch grounds , with our number one and number two bands pitted against bands from Haileybury and Ballarat
