BACK- TO-BACK CENTURIES BY THE CAPTAIN

Unbeaten hundreds on consecutive days
After three seasons when no Scotch batsman has made a century in an official APS match , William Townsend , Captain of the 1st XI , broke the drought by scoring two consecutive tons and backed them up with two further hundreds later in the season .
William , the winner of the 2020 / 21 H I Cohen Trophy for the best all-round 1st XI player , achieved a rare feat . On Friday 18 February he scored an unbeaten 109 runs against St Kevin ’ s College to lead the team to an impressive score of 3-163 in a twenty20 match . William played a well-paced innings to start with , and accelerated as the overs went by . St Kevin ’ s was limited to 6-100 by a disciplined bowling and fielding performance by Scotch , who won `by 63 runs .
One day later , on Saturday 19 February , William scored yet another unbeaten century – 146 runs against Geelong Grammar School . He played an innings of concentration and skill which highlighted his true potential and character . This time he steered his team to a strong position of 3-274 after 50 overs .
Unfortunately for Scotch , due to sheer tenacity and determination by the opposition , we were not able to capitalise on the score posted , and ended up losing the match by one wicket . The match was one of the most gripping ever played on the Main Oval , swinging from side to side throughout , all for school and the much esteemed Tait Trophy , which is awarded annually to the winner of the Scotch versus Geelong Grammar School match in March .
With two unbeaten centuries to his name , for William Townsend it was just the beginning . He scored two more centuries in a stellar season – 131 not out against Wesley , and 124 against Geelong College in the final APS round , to cap off a prolific season .
