think more deeply about the issues we face and our place within the world around us . Mr Batty has been the most approachable , kind-hearted and perceptive Principal I could have asked for – and with a great sense of humour to boot .
SORIN ZOTA – CLASS OF 2013
Eight years on from my Scotch years , my most enduring memories of Mr Batty centre around his approachable , gregarious spirit . It is rare to find a principal who genuinely cares about his school and students as much as Mr Batty , who attended every major Scotch event , remembered his students by name , and even frequently found time to engage in some friendly competition with the younger boys on the two-square courts !
As busy as a principal is , he was never too busy to forget to leave his door open to his students every morning . His generosity of character and championship of lifelong learning is embodied in the literary classics from his collection , which to this day remain on my bookshelf . Mr Batty was a central role model figure during my formative years at Scotch , to so many other boys like me . Thank you for your mentorship , support , and so much more .
DANIEL LIU – CLASS OF 2014
Always encouraging , inclusive and enthusiastic , Mr Batty had such a significant impact on my years at Scotch College . As an Editor of Collegian , I regularly met with Mr Batty and greatly appreciated his valuable insights . He was welcoming and very willing to discuss ideas for the School ’ s annual publication . Looking back , I remember Mr Batty ’ s many inspiring speeches during Assemblies in Memorial Hall and his thoughtful day-to-day conversations with us all .
Mr Batty often spoke about the importance of seeing the world and broadening our horizons . I had opportunities at Scotch to travel both interstate and overseas . In particular , I am forever grateful to Mr Batty for establishing the exchange with Eton College . It was a highlight for me in Year 11 and a truly amazing experience . Through this exchange , I made wonderful , lasting friendships .
CONNOR MISCAMBLE – CLASS OF 2015
Mr Batty has had such a compelling vision for the School in his time as Principal . With a very strong set of values , he worked hard and achieved so much . Above all else , he is very personable – a trait which should never be undervalued in his role . Thank you , Mr Batty – you have left the School a much better place and influenced many boys for the better , including myself . You will be missed .
THOMAS ANDERSON – CLASS OF 2015
Education can be highly theoretical ; dealing with hypotheticals and fabricated scenarios designed to teach and hone skills . Mr Batty emphasises the role that Scotch has to play in developing its students into good people , providing practical soft skills required to become valuable and considerate members of the community . There is significance placed on developing strong personal values and morals as much as academic skills . He is extremely passionate about challenging you in an effort to ensure you develop your own ideas and opinions , and are not simply following the crowd .
