agreed to add their support to this program . The deferred 24 hour fundraising event to support the Rioli Family Indigenous Scholarship will now be launched at a dinner at Leonda on 25 May , and we want to see as many there as possible . We have already attracted $ 1.5 million of ‘ matching donations ’, so every dollar committed in the 24 hours brings $ 3 out of this pool : $ 500,000 is the 24 hour target . A successful campaign will get us close to the overall funding target , with another exciting announcement to be made at the dinner .
We are all hopeful that the worst of the COVID pandemic is behind us . ‘ Yogi ’ Berra , a deceased US baseball Hall of Famer , is renowned for his malaprops and humorous sayings . One that I like best and that is very pertinent to the last few years is , ‘ It ’ s tough to make predictions , particularly about the future ’.
Finally , much will be written about our Principal Tom Batty in this edition of Great Scot , and there will be opportunities to farewell him formally prior to his departure in June . The Foundation AGM and President ’ s Dinner on Thursday 12 May will see us officially launch the Tom Batty Scholarship – a scholarship to honour Tom ’ s outstanding contribution to Scotch over the past 15 years – and will also be an opportunity for the Foundation to thank Tom for his service to Scotch .
The Foundation has enjoyed a strong and open relationship with Tom , and acknowledges his personal input into the advances referred to previously . His vision for the School has driven much of the Foundation ’ s work over the time of his tenure . We wish him and Lee a rewarding and fulfilling future back in the old country .
