Monty was born on 1 March 1935 at Albury , New South Wales , the son of Abraham ( Jack ) and Esther Rachel ( nee Gotowizna ) Rudov , who arrived in Australia from Poland in 1926 . He attended Glamorgan ( now Geelong Grammar School ) from 1941 to 1942 , and then Scotch from 1943 to 1953 . He was a member of the 1952 and 1953 Tennis teams . Also at Scotch was his brother David ( born 20.4.1928 , SC 1942-45 , died 12.11.2011 ).
For two years , Monty studied Medicine at Melbourne University , but he decided instead to go into the family businesses . Schumacher Shoes was an iconic shop in Collins Street , opened in 1959 . Monty and David ran it from 1972 , supplying beautiful imported shoes to a clientele ranging from brides to drag queens . Monty loved going into the city and working with his staff , until closing Schumacher Shoes in 2018 . Monty and David were in all their businesses together , including manufacturing and selling women ’ s fashions
as Rowville Fashions , originally in Gertrude Street , Fitzroy , and later in Flinders Lane in the city . Other businesses included Verity Fashions , ACB Bond fabric bonding , Daly Rudov stainless steel etching and Acno rye grass extract . The brothers had a close bond , with a strong trust and affection for one another .
In his youth , Monty was a great partygoer . He played a high level of tennis well into middle-age , having been Victorian Schoolboy Champion , and loved betting on the horses . He was a man of few words , and like so many of that generation , did not easily talk about his own personal thoughts . His children said he always listened to them and attended to their needs , providing valuable advice , and he adored his daughter , Simone , and son Adrian , as well as his grandchildren , Isabella and Harrison .
For about 20 years , Monty lived with his partner , Brona , whom he met in the 1960s . They shared many happy times with family and friends . Brona cared for Monty in the most supportive and attentive way until his death from lymphoma at Japara Aged Care , Windsor on 27 September 2021 .
TSINDOS , George Russell (’ 01 ) George ’ s mother , Susan , wrote :
George was born at East Melbourne on 29 December 1983 , the son of Gary and Susan Tsindos . He attended Peninsula Grammar School and then Scotch from 1996 to 2001 , boarding in Arthur Robinson House , and was a member of Littlejohn House . George played in the premiership 2001 1st XV , and swam in the winning 2000 and 2001 Swimming teams . He was a Scotch at Cowes Admiral .
George followed his great-grandfather , Geoffrey Robert Panter Russell ( born 26.5.1892 , SC 1907-08 , died 19.4.1946 ; co-founded Repco ), and his great-greatuncle , George Benson Russell ( born 18.8.1893 , SC 1908-11 , died 15.3.1986 ). His great-grandfather , George Tsindos , thought we named George after him , and George Russell thought the same . It did not matter because he was his own person .
George tried so hard at everything he attempted . Even as a young boy he had an amazing understanding of right and wrong , of good and bad . He was a loyal friend to all he met . His relationships with friends from Peninsula Grammar and Scotch will be forever remembered .
George spent several years in the family nursery after completing a Bachelor of Horticulture at Melbourne University . He then received a Diploma of International Trade from RMIT . George spent time at Sadleirs transport and then TIG Freight while doing a Certificate 4 in Business Management . He then formed his own landscaping business , GRT Gardens .
On 3 March 2012 George married Dr Kate Bridgman at the Peninsula Country Golf Club , Frankston , and they had a son , Jack .
As a family it was one in , all in , and that was that . He tried hard to carry that on . As a Toorak College rowing coach he insisted on it . It did not matter what George started on , he would do his utmost for the best outcome . His motto was : ‘ good better best , never let it rest , until your good is better and your better is the best ’.
George died on 8 August 2021 at the Austin Hospital , Heidelberg . We will never know why he was taken so early . We all miss George terribly and will love him forever : Mum , Dad , Laura and Alice .
