COVID CONCERTS AND CASUALTIES

Following a year of cancelled concerts and the challenges of virtual performances , competitions and recitals , it was a relief to be able to perform again at the very end of 2020 , albeit just to a camera . With heavy restrictions on wind , brass and singing , the annual Summer Prom and Carol Service were combined , using a string orchestra with
minimal wind . Elgar ’ s Serenade for Strings was followed by readings and traditional carols sung by the voice staff , accompanied by the orchestra .
Term 1 saw a glimpse of normality , aside from lockdown three in February . We were allowed a restricted and socially-distanced audience for the first concert of the Autumn
Season , and our Pipes and Drums was one of only six bands chosen to play in the Anzac Day parade . Two Pipe Bands also competed for the first time in more than 12 months , winning all sections that they entered .
Chamber music continued to flourish . A trio comprising Samuel Zong (' 20 – piano ), Leon Fei ( Year 11 – violin ) and Derek Phillips
