SCOTCH ’ S YEAR 11 VCE DRAMA STUDENTS PERFORM FOR THE VCAA
In August this year the VCE Year 11 drama students were invited to present their solo performances as part of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority assessor standardisation process . The solos were prepared almost entirely while the students were in remote learning .
We thank the boys and their teacher , Mr Michael Waugh , for preparing the students for this task , and for providing an opportunity to produce a full-length solo in Year 11 that mocks their real task for Units 3 and 4 . We proudly look forward to seeing what this courageous bunch of talented boys can produce in 2022 .
SCOTCH ’ S JAMES BRADDY ( CLASS OF 2020 ) PERFORMED AT TOP CLASS 2021
The VCE Drama solo assessment requires students to research , write and present a seven-minute solo based on a given solo structure . James chose the character of The Boxer , based on the history of tent boxing in Australia . James was one of four students from the VCE Drama class of 2020 to obtain top marks for their VCE Drama solo , and to be invited to audition for Top Class .
James fully embraced this opportunity and was successful , being awarded a place in one of the Top Class concerts of 2021 . In March 2021 , James presented his VCE Drama solo performance to a full house audience at the Arts Centre , Melbourne . He also went on to record his work for future VCE drama students . Huge congratulations to James .
THE INAUGURAL VCE THEATRE STUDIES CLASS OF 2021
In 2021 a small cohort of theatre students made up the inaugural VCE Theatre Studies class at Scotch . With a keen appetite for theatre and a wealth of experience on the Geoffrey McComas Theatre stage , the boys fully embraced this course .
Semester 1 saw them use design and performance work in the play Arturo Ui as part of their VCE Outcome , and Semester 2 involved the boys developing a monologue for their final examination while in lockdown .
Spurred on by the news that they could attend school to rehearse for assessment tasks , they worked exceptionally hard to refine and polish their monologue performance task , which was viewed by parents on Zoom in early October , and then for assessment on 18 October . We wish the boys every success in this examination , and have fingers crossed that we may see some of them perform in Top Class 2022 . HAYLEY SANDPEARL – HEAD OF DRAMA
