INSPIRATION FOR SCOTCH ’ S YOUNG ASPIRING ACTORS

YEAR 7 DRAMA STUDENTS – LEARNING AND DEVELOPING

In 2021 Scotch employed a series of artists-in-residence to work with our Year 7 Drama students . Early in the year Erica , an Indigenous elder , explored Indigenous storytelling . She spent an hour talking to the boys and sharing stories with them . They then took these stories and chose one to dramatise .
In the following weeks , Alya Manzart , a physical theatre teacher , workshopped some movement with the boys so that they could physicalise as well as verbalise the stories .
In the second half of the year the boys continued their involvement in drama , and auditioned for the Year 7 play , ExaminAction .
ExaminAction was rehearsed virtually and performed for recording in Term 4 by a group of Scotch Year 7 boys . Written and directed by OSCA alumni Charlie Veitch and Rex Cameron ( both of the Class of 2019 ), ExaminAction is a comedic exploration of genre and exam pressure faced by students . The play focuses on a group of stereotypical students forced to work together on a group project to pass English , entering the stories being studied and encountering a range of kooky characters from these plot lines .
