He attended Scotch from 1957 to 1967 as a member of Monash House , and was 1962 Junior School Captain . Dave ’ s love of music began with a band formed at school called the Soul Survivors . His love of Latin was encouraged by Ron Bond and school friends .
Passing Matriculation in 1967 , Dave graduated in law from Melbourne University in 1972 . At the long-established city firm of Henderson & Ball he enjoyed life as an articled clerk with old school friends .
Dave ’ s passion was rock and roll , and , after a year or so practising law , he became a professional musician in Orpheus , a band also formed at Scotch . With classmates Richard Thomas Hogg ( born 16.3.1950 , SC 1958-68 , died 30.9.1993 ), Rodger Morton ( SC 1961-68 ), Frank Edwards ( SC 1962-67 ), David Johnston ( SC 1960-68 ), and Old Melburnian Ian Cumming , Orpheus became prominent in Melbourne ’ s vibrant 1970s pub music scene . Dave was the musical arranger and band leader .

On 17 October 1992 Dave married Rosita Daniell at the Old Melbourne Mint . Moving to Launceston in 2003 , Dave became a wood craftsman , and , with Rosi , built a business selling wood product finishes and ethical cleaning products .
For nearly 30 years , Dave convened an annual lunch in memory of Richard Hogg , and later also James Alexander ( Jim ) Bacon ( born 15.5.1950 , SC 1957-67 , died 20.6.2004 ). Attendees included Thomas Franklyn Hogg ( born 9.11.1925 , SC 1934- 43 , died 18.10.2017 ), Andrew Fairley ( SC 1957-67 ), Ian Goddard ( SC 1962-67 ) and former band members .
