1957 Cadet Guard Commander . He was a 1956 Probationer and later Prefect , and 1957 Vice Captain of Scotch . Relatives at Scotch included grandsons Andrew ( SC 2013-18 ) and Woody Kroger ( SC 2012-20 ).
Graduating LLB from Melbourne University ( 1963 ), Andrew married Susan Rossiter ( later Lady Susan Renouf ) at St Andrew ’ s Anglican Church , Brighton , on 7 February 1963 . Their children are Ann , Jane and Caroline .
President of the Young Liberals ( 1962 ) and Victorian Liberal Party President ( 1965- 66 ), Andrew became MHR for Kooyong ( 1966-94 ) following Prime Minister Robert Menzies ’ resignation . He served in the Army Reserve for the same period . Sociable , good-looking , and interested in horseracing , he received the sobriquet ‘ The Colt from Kooyong ’ and brought the Liberals a fresh approach .
The youngest to serve in a federal ministry on becoming Minister for the Army ( 1969-72 ), Andrew led numerous overseas delegations , including at least two visits to Vietnam during the war . He was Minister Assisting the Prime Minister ( 1969-71 ), Minister Assisting the Treasurer ( 1971-72 ), and Minister for External Territories ( 1972 ). On his first day in the latter role , Andrew visited Papua New Guinea ( PNG ) – his first of over 50 visits as a politician – paving the way for PNG ’ s transition to self-government in 1973 . In gratitude for that , and for promoting good relations between the countries , PNG awarded him the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu ( GCL ) in 2006 .
In the Fraser Government Andrew was Minister for the Environment ( 1975 ), Foreign Affairs ( 1975-80 ), Industrial Relations ( 1980- 81 ) and Commerce ( 1982-83 ). Becoming Leader of the Liberal Party and Leader of the Opposition in 1983 , he married Mrs Margaret Jill ( nee Ingram ) St George at Christ Church Anglican Church , South Yarra , on 8 September 1983 .
After losing the 1984 election to Bob Hawke , Andrew resigned as Leader of the Opposition in 1985 . Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs ( 1985-87 ), Deputy Leader and Shadow Treasurer ( 1987-89 ), in 1989 he resumed the leadership , but lost the 1990 election to Bob Hawke . Again resigning as Leader , Andrew was Shadow Attorney- General and Minister for Justice ( 1990-92 ),
Shadow Minister for Trade ( 1993 ) and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs ( 1993- 94 ). He resigned from parliament in 1994 .
As Australian Ambassador to the USA ( 1997-2000 ) Andrew used his considerable close contacts with influential Americans to strengthen ties between the countries . On 21 September 2002 he married Mrs Penne Ann ( nee Percy ) Korth at Washington DC . Andrew ’ s company directorships included Chairman and President of Boeing Australia ( 2002-07 ). In the 1997 Queen ’ s Birthday honours he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia ( AC ) ‘ for service to the Australian Parliament , to politics and for the formation and implementation of defence and foreign policy ’.
Andrew died on 16 April 2021 at home at Austin , Texas , USA . Prime Minister Scott Morrison called him ‘ a great Australian ’ who helped shape ‘ Australia and the Liberal Party over three decades ’. Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said that Andrew combined ‘ style and substance ’ and played politics ‘ as he pursued life , with vigour , dignity , and the utmost decency ’.
SCOTT , Michael Reid (’ 45 )
Michael ’ s son , Rod (’ 78 ), wrote :
Michael was born at Toorak on 21 August 1928 , the eldest child of Arthur Reid and Lilian ( nee Burbury ) Scott . He attended Glamorgan ( now Geelong Grammar School , Toorak ) and then Scotch from 1942 to 1944 . A member of Gardiner House , Michael enjoyed athletics and Scouts . Also at Scotch were his brothers Robert ( SC 1944- 47 ) and Alan Reid Scott ( born 2.3.1936 , SC 1942-51 , died 28.1.2009 ).
In 1945 Michael joined Goldsborough Mort & Co ., stock and station agents , at their large bluestone wool store in Bourke Street , Melbourne . He then spent five years jackarooing on a Tasmanian farm before returning to Goldsborough Mort ’ s Stud Stock Department at the Newmarket
saleyards . He later worked at Goldsborough Mort branches in Yea and Benalla .
In 1946 Michael joined the Ski Club of Victoria , and enjoyed skiing at Falls Creek and Mount Hotham . He also joined the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria , becoming a skilled sailor .
In 1958 Michael met Jill Bryan Dufty , and they married at Scotch on 11 March 1960 . Their son Rod ( SC 1975-78 ) was followed by Alison and James ( SC 1980-83 ).
Michael and Jill farmed on properties at Euroa and Mansfield , but mostly at Tooma in the Upper Murray region of New South Wales .
Michael was a ‘ gentleman ’ and a ‘ gentle man ’. A man of the people , he firmly believed in integrity , decency , patience and good manners . Hard working and resourceful , he wasted nothing . Michael was totally reliable , with a strong sense of correctness . He was generous to others with his time and was always very fair .
Very proud of his Scottish ancestry , Michael liked all things Scottish . He took great delight in listening to the bagpipes , particularly when played by his grandson , Alistair Cunningham ( SC 2005-14 ), a former member of Scotch ’ s Pipes and Drums .
Michael had an unwavering commitment to his family , and was very proud of his children and grandchildren . He maintained close contact with his old friends from Scotch and was a member of the East Melbourne Glen Chapter .
On Australia Day 2021 Michael died peacefully at Estia Health Albury , Thurgoona , New South Wales , surrounded by his loving family .

John was born on 21 April 1946 at Canberra , ACT , the son of Louis Spence and Vernon Rima Howorth ( nee Swain ) Spence . His father was killed in the Korean War on 9 September 1950 .
