BETWEEN LOCKDOWNS , THREE EVENTS TAKE CENTRE STAGE

OPPORTUNITIES TO CELEBRATE IN A TIME OF CONTINUING UNCERTAINTY
THE 2021 SCOTCH COLLEGE FOUNDATION BOARD
No one is finding Victoria ’ s rolling lockdowns easy to deal with , and I have great sympathy for all students , families and staff as they manage their ‘ fly in , fly out ’ lives . We have welcomed the freedom between lockdowns ; the opportunity to gather together that we normally take so much for granted . During these times the Foundation has been fortunate to be involved in three important Scotch events .
On 24 March we hosted a cocktail party for the members of the Alexander Morrison Circle . The AMC , established in 2003 , has 163 living members , all of whom have made commitments to Scotch College in their Wills . In doing so , all have recognised the importance of supporting Scotch ’ s future , ensuring the benefits we have all gained from the School will be available to future generations .
This was not only a good opportunity to showcase the Keon-Cohen Dining Hall ; it also gave us a chance to reflect on Alexander Morrison , who served the School as
its second Principal from 1857 to 1903 – 47 years – our longest-serving Principal . Our current Principal , Tom Batty , would need to remain until 2055 to match that . Morrison ’ s brother , Robert , was also Vice Principal for 35 years , from 1870 . The AMC is one way we have recognised Alexander Morrison ’ s contribution to our School .
We really grasped our opportunity on 6 May . First , in the Cardinal Pavilion , with autumn sunshine streaming through the windows , we hosted a luncheon for Forbes Society members . Within the tiered structure of the Foundation , membership of the Forbes Society is offered to our most generous donors , some of whom are also individually awarded the honour of being Foundation Patrons .
Established in 1996 , the Forbes Society welcomed 10 new members at this lunch , including Ken Jasper AM (’ 55 ), Don Moyes (’ 50 ), Song Zhu and Li He , and Fung Lam and Cecilia Zhao . Four other new Forbes Society
