GUEST SPEAKERS JANE GILMORE ( ABOVE ) AND BRENT SANDERS ( RIGHT , ON SCREEN ) ADDRESS
Each year as part of our ongoing Respectful Relationships Program , Scotch College , working collaboratively with MLC , holds a Respectful Relationships Day for Year 10s . In the lead-up to the event , student facilitators from both schools are trained together to guide their peers on the day . To complement the day – Wednesday 14 July – a webinar was held for Year 10 parents , in which Brent Sanders , who has an extensive background in the police force and a unique understanding of the psychology of conflict , spoke about consent and healthy relationships .
The aim of the Year 10 Respectful Relationships Day is to help students become more aware of issues that arise in social and sexual relationships , respect all types of relationships , and develop strategies to create and maintain positive relationships .
JACKIE COWCHER – TEACHER-IN-CHARGE
Here is a report on the day by Scotch ’ s Student Facilitator , CAMPBELL MANNING ( Year 10 ):
Overall , I can say with great confidence that the day and the ideas surrounding it were well presented and important . The prior training with the girls from MLC provided a valuable insight into another perspective on gender issues . The exercises we did , and the conversations we had , are something I won ’ t be forgetting anytime soon .
