Graham was a 1951 Probationer and a 1952 School Prefect .
In 1952 Graham won the best and fairest and played in the Old Scotch Football Club ’ s inaugural Under 19 premiership ( together with Terry Waites , SC 1945-52 ). Graham played for Redan in the Ballarat League ( 1953-55 ) winning the 1955 Ballarat League ’ s best and fairest . After playing one game ( with two goals ) for the Essendon Football Club on a permit in 1955 , he played 16 games in 1956 , leading Essendon ’ s goal-kicking with 33 .
Graham was simultaneously studying metallurgy at the Ballarat School of Mines . A job in North Broken Hill ’ s mine led to him to play football in the Broken Hill Football League . Graham kicked a record-breaking 83 goals in a season , including 15 goals in one match . He played for North Broken Hill ( 1957-60 ) and in South Broken Hill as Captain-Coach , and coached the combined Broken Hill side . Graham won the 1962 premiership with South Broken Hill , and retired from football in 1964 .
On 14 March 1959 Graham married Joan Frances Saggers at Scotch . They left Broken Hill in 1965 to relocate to Western Australia , where Graham worked in the beach sand industry . This led him to work in mineral , mining and treatment operations throughout the world , including positions in South America and South Africa . Graham became BHP ’ s Chief Metallurgist , and , in 1983 , he was a consultant to BHP on its mining and treatment operations in the Northern Territory . He resigned from BHP and retired in about 2002 .
Graham died at Geelong on 10 February 2021 . He is survived by Joan , daughters Marda , Joanne and Kirsten , and his granddaughter Ella .
