PEDLOW , Robert Allan ( Allan ) (' 50 ) Allan ' s wife , Judy , wrote : Robert Allan Pedlow was born on 1 November 1932 at Alma Road , East St Kilda , and left Strathfield Kindergarten to attend Scotch from 1939 to 1947 . Known as Allan , he was a member of the 1945 Junior School football team .
Also at Scotch were his brothers Edward Richard Pedlow ( born 5.7.1927 , SC 1937- 40 , died 9.8.2007 ), Ian William Kenneth Pedlow ( born 14.3.1930 , SC 1937-48 , died 6.5.1984 ), and Andrew ( SC 1942-49 ). All of the brothers were known as ' Dook '. Their grandfather , George Pedlow ( born 26 June 1850 , died 5 November 1934 ), taught at Scotch from 1891 .
After completing Intermediate at Scotch , Allan began working in carpentry and ran an antique shop with a friend . From 1957 he worked with Don Jamieson in a shoe store that became Jamieson Shoes , with 10 stores and a warehouse in Melbourne ' s eastern suburbs . The business was sold , and in 1978 / 79 they established merchandising group Shoex , which served shoe stores nationwide . It was sold to A . R . L . in 1986 , with Allan working at that company until retiring in 1996 .
Allan married Judith Gertrude Husband at the Ewing Memorial Presbyterian Church , Malvern , on 5 March 1960 . They had a son , Ross , daughters Jane and Kathrine , and grandsons Alain , David and Joshua .
Reading history , philosophy and fiction was a keen interest , as was bushwalking . Allan enjoyed hunting wild pigs , and he hunted deer during the Tasmanian deer season , with a 14 point deer head mounted in his hallway .
Allan died on Christmas Eve , 2019 , at Perth , Western Australia .
STRANG , Robert William Alistair (’ 64 ) Robert ’ s son , Alex (’ 90 ), wrote :
Robert Strang was born at Melbourne on 28 June 1946 , the middle of 11 children , including Peter Donald George Strang ( born 10.7.1939 , SC 1946-56 , died 23.3.1997 ), John Francis Roderick Strang ( born 20.7.1940 , SC 1947-58 , died 29.9.2016 ), Graeme Duncan Parfitt Strang ( born 9.8.1941 , SC 1948-59 , died 26.8.2020 ), and David ( SC 1949-62 ). Also at Scotch were Robert ’ s sons , Alexander ( SC 1979-90 ), Robert ( SC 1981-93 ), and grandsons Benjamin ( Year 12 ), Henry ( Year 11 ) and Sebastian ( SC 2019-20 ).
Attending Scotch as a member of Gilray House ( 1952-64 ), he boarded in Arthur Robinson House in 1961 . Robert fondly remembered hitching a ride to school in the Rev . Archie Crow ’ s three-wheeled car . As Six-seat in the 1964 1st VIII , he developed an enduring association with Scotch rowing . The first of his brothers to break with rugby union , Robert played in the 1964 1st XVIII . He was also a member of the Cadet Quarter Guard . Many lifelong friendships began at Scotch .
Robert joined his father and brothers in the family business , Tradex Transport . He moved from its road freight area to waterfront stevedoring as Managing Director of F . G . Strang in 1976 , overseeing a period of growth , cultivating extensive relationships with Russian , Polish and Chinese shipping lines , and developing a presence in all major Australian ports .
In 1984 , Robert was elected President of the Australian Polish Chamber of Commerce . He was instrumental in the inception of the Strzelecki Monument at Jindabyne . His work to promote Polish- Australian relations was recognised in 1991 , when he was awarded the Commander ’ s Cross and Sash of the Order of Merit , Poland ’ s highest honour for non-citizens .
Robert maintained excellent relations with the Maritime Union of Australia : in
the early 1990s F . G . Strang became the first Australian stevedore to implement productivity-based workplace agreements .
After orchestrating a merger with James Patrick & Co . to form Strang Patrick Stevedoring , Robert ’ s entrepreneurial spirit came to the fore , founding successful businesses based on his expertise on the docks . His work gave him purpose , while his family gave it meaning , and he was fortunately able to combine the two .
Robert died at home at Port Melbourne on 7 November 2020 .
WILSON , James Lewis (’ 46 ) Jim ’ s daughter , Jill , wrote :
James Lewis Wilson was born at the Foster Hospital , Foster , on 18 August 1928 , the son of Percival James ( PJ ) Wilson , ( born 27.10.1892 , SC 1903-09 , 1909 Dux , died 7.4.1955 ). Jim boarded in School House as a member of Littlejohn House from 1940 to 1947 . Also at Scotch were his brother Anthony ( Tony ) Wilson ( born 30.10.1929 , SC 1945-47 , died 2.7.1979 ) and uncle Hugh Campbell Wilson ( born 12.2.1882 , SC 1895-97 , 1897 Dux , died 10.12.1970 ).
Due to World War II ’ s austerity , Jim joked that boarders were served rabbits from Scotch ’ s grounds . Jim confessed he was not much of a scholar , but he relished Scotch ’ s sporting opportunities . He studied Law at Melbourne University , representing Ormond College in football and cricket .
Graduating in 1955 , and following his father ’ s sudden death , Jim took over the family law practice in Foster , serving the surrounding areas . On 22 February 1957 he married Gwenneth Lorna ( Lorna ) Hollins at Scotch . They soon had five daughters , and actively participated in the Foster community . Lorna died on 16 February 2004 .
Jim was involved in sporting clubs for most of his life . His skills as a cricketer were acknowledged by selection in the Foster Cricket Club Team of the Century Best XI . Such was his dedication that he returned
